Abstract

This chapter examines the preparatory proceedings stage in criminal procedure, its essence, objectives, and significance for organizing trial proceedings. It covers the procedures of the preparatory court session, the resolution of issues related to preparation for trial, and the completion of preparatory proceedings and referral of cases to trial. Special attention is paid to verifying the sufficiency of factual and legal grounds for trial, ensuring the rights of the parties, and adherence to principles of the rule of law, legality, presumption of innocence, and the right to defense. The chapter analyzes the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine regarding preparatory proceedings and its role as an independent stage of criminal process.
