Abstract

The article considers the hryvnia devaluation and basic challenges to Ukraine’s economy, which were caused by it. The situation is discussed in terms of formation of the foreign currency supply on the domestic market, mechanisms and instruments for currency regulation, inflationary effects, and the contradictory ideology of backing for the banking system. In this context, the author has analyzed balance of payments of Ukraine indices, the size and structure of the NBU gold and foreign currency reserves, dynamics of operations on foreign currency sale/purchase on the cash market, growth rates of the monetary aggregates, dynamics of banks deposits, and indices of maintenance of banking system liquidity by the NBU.
