Abstract

The article examines the history of the emergence and spread of the lexeme styl as the name of household furniture in the Ukrainian language. The peculiarities of the functioning of the word in the Ukrainian language from the ancient Kievan period to the modern stage and its reflection in other Slavic languages, Ukrainian dialects are considered. Derivative formations from it and the names of table elements are described as evidence of the demand and significant spread of the lexeme styl, its derivatives and diminutives.
