Improve your Business English: a Handbook for University Students

Abstract

The study guide has a practical orientation. The purpose of a wide thematic range of units is to offer students a complete system of knowledge in the sequence and volume in which the business course is taught abroad. The texts serve not only to develop the skills of reading and translating professional literature, but also carry important information necessary for future professional activities. The study guide consists of 15 units, offered in a clear logical sequence according to the subject. The structure of each of them is subordinated to the general purpose of the manual. Thus, each unit consists of basic texts on a topic, a dictionary-comment, lexical and grammatical exercises, as well as dialogues that complement or illustrate the topic of the unit. Lexical exercises for each unit: learn new words and phrases; choose definitions for the given terms; do exercises, replace missing words or expressions in sentences; answer questions; translate sentences into English or Ukrainian; choose synonyms and antonyms; create dialogues based on new vocabulary; make a sentence from the suggested words; define true or false statements; create thematic situations, etc. The system of these exercises ensures the students' effective assimilation of the necessary knowledge, the development of stable abilities and skills of oral and written communication, working with English-language original sources. Presentation of grammatical material involves performing various exercises on the basis of knowledge of grammatical material, which is necessary for the expression of relevant functions and concepts.
