The thesis describes the essence, types and mechanisms of applying economic sanctions; examines the concept of protectionism in the international economy; analyzes the world experience of applying economic sanctions and their impact on the economies of the initiating and target countries; assesses the consequences of sanctions policy for international trade and financial flows; determines the role of international organizations in sanctions policy; considers alternative methods of economic influence in international relations.
