Abstract

The article analyzes the functional potential of literary nominations in Lesya Ukrainka’s epistolary communication, and explores the features of their lexical-semantic and structural-grammatical organizations. It is emphasized that today the author’s letters are important not only as significant fragments of the writer’s autobiography, but also as an original example of cultural and artistic communication of the late 19th – early 20th centuries. It is noted that the writer, analyzing typological phenomena in a specific national cultural process, forms her own linguistic picture in epistolary texts, the relevant lexemes of which are associated with the macrofield “literature”. The specificity of the system of interconnected linguistic units in Lesya Ukrainka’s epistolary work follows from the features of their ideological and thematic orientation. It was found that the literary names of the writer have great connecting properties, they are quantitatively and thematically diverse. The nominations are most fully implemented in the following lexical-semantic groups: ʻliterary personalitiesʼ, ʻliterary trends and stylesʼ, ʻgenres, types and genres of literatureʼ, ʻelements of form and content of literary worksʼ, ʻcharactersʼ, etc. The zone of the macrofield “literature” in the writer’s epistolary communication is characterized by grammatical and contextual synonyms, archaisms, authorial neologisms, semantically filled associative constructions. The dominant position in the peripheral zone of the macrofield «literature» is occupied by the nominations of the lexical-semantic group «genus, types and genres of literature», which demonstrate the richness of the dictionary of literary theory. The microsystem, which verbalizes the genre specificity of the works mentioned in the epistolary texts, is diverse in terms of the number of lexical units presented. It is summarized that Lesya Ukrainka surprises modern Ukrainians with her intellectual and cultural breadth, knowledge of European languages and cultures, and deep interest in the subtleties of the literary process, reflected in every line of her letter communication.
